Finland based HMD Global, the exclusive licensee holder for Nokia branded smartphones and tablets, has launched a FIY (fix it yourself) smartphone.
The G22 has been designed with repairability and affordability in mind (global average rrp of 179 EUR) and comes with a 100% recycled plastic back, OZO Playback that delivers enhanced bass and clearer sound, plus 2 years of Android™ OS upgrades. It’s also claimed that the battery life is up to 3 days, and maintains over 80% of its original capacity even after 800 full charging cycles.Spare parts for the G22 and at-home FixKits are available through the iFixit online store.
The approach by HMD Global could prove to be a big hit with Gen Z and ‘fix it’ heads looking for a more affordable phone that scores highly on the repair front together with a brand commitment to ongoing software and hardware upgrades.
